From roses to coasters

A week of rain brought the blooms out.  This is one...just one...cluster of blooms on the small heirloom rose shrub by the back porch.  There are probably 200 buds/blooms on it right now.  Very lightly scented and just perfect to enjoy inside.

With all the rain, I have not gotten a lot done....rain equals pain.  So I have worked in spurts and short bits to get anything accomplished.

Sir Old Man took me to quilt guild this week.  We had a great program by Joyce Walton and her quilting journey.  She does some traditional work, and is exploring painting art quilts too.  I was inspired by her "made fabric" borders.  Leftovers sewn into blocks similar to crumb piecing.

It brings to mind the cobblestone blocks that Wanda at Exuberant Color shared.

I used the cobblestone blocks for the background  in a favorite wall hanging, Heads Up.  I think I still have a box of leftovers from this project.   I need to look for them :)

Update for the string star......decision made.  I cut the backing this morning.  It will not get larger after all.

I had a few leftover blocks that did not make it into the star top.  And I sure did not want more leftover parts.  I elected to turn them into small coasters!  Much more usable that leftover blocks. These finished up at 4''.

Now to get the floral log cabin pinned....happy stitching.

Those are lovely roses. I can just imagine the stunning sight when that bush is in full bloom! Lightly scented? Perfect!
That wall hanging is so lovely. I think I can feel the gently breeze causing the flowers to sway.
Good call on the star quilt. It is beautiful as is.
And you whipped up some very cute little coasters from the leftovers.

I love your wallhanging with the cobblestones as a background. I wish I could get interested enough in applique to do that. Meanwhile I'll just enjoy yours! Love your roses too!

Beautiful roses - I can almost smell them! The coasters were a great idea for the extra blocks. I hope you are feeling better and that the rain has stopped. ~Jeanne

Those roses are gorgeous! And your little wall hanging with the red flowers to match - I don't remember seeing that one before, truly beautiful. You've accomplished a lot this week, and small projects are wonderful to have finished too, especially nice when there is a stack of them for gift occasions, which always seem to sneak up on us (me). Have a wonderful weekend!

Your rose bush must be absolutely gorgeous! Sorry to hear the rain slows you down doing what you love to do. We have so much rain lately! Great idea using up your scraps to make coasters.

The roses are so lovely. Then the wall hanging with the cobblestones has a pop of the same red in the flower on it. You have made my eyes happy this morning.

That lily applique piece is gorgeous! I love how the background is soft and subtle and lets the flowers be the star of the show. And your string star is so fun! I love the wonderful variety of string blocks :)

Hope the rain and the pain passes quickly!

The red roses are beautiful. All I have blooming in my yard right now are zinnias but they make me smile every time I look out at them. So glad you showed your favorite wall hanging. Super fun coasters from your leftover block. Hope the rain stops soon & you get to felling better.

The wall hanging is beautiful--pops with color! And roses are always a fav with me. I've planted more this year and so currently have the most I have ever owned. They are loving the rain we've gotten--I think every one is blooming!
