Returning to regular programming....

Sorry for the absence of a few weeks, although I have been reading and following most blogs.
I have been dealing with blood pressure drops that leave me completely wiped out and exhausted.   My system is very sensitive to any change, and nerve pathways to the brain and organs do not always function as they should.  This is just part of the Pernicious Anemia condition.   The medication adjustment made by the doctor last month we thought would take care of it, but  the condition quickly returned.  Cutting pills in half just doesn't work because nothing is consistent.  So finally the wonderful pharmacist joined in and we hope her suggestion will work.

With that said, the sewing room has been visited very sporadically.   I would go in there and stare at the garlic knot top and knew it needed more.  A border or edge to finish it off.  Why work on blocks and then just stop with nothing to frame it.  Finally over the weekend, I decided on adding a flange band and then a simple border.

I really like how this ended up.....and it will move on to the "needs to be pinned" stack for now.

About a month ago I talked about doing a spider web string quilt after a guild program presented one.  I had the big idea of making my own foundation papers from newsprint....etc.  Well, I am working on it, but got some help from  Missouri Star  and the Wacky Web set.   Thanks, Vicki, for commenting about this last time.  It has made life easier.   Plus I caught it on special :)

We have finally figured out what has been making a mess on our deck.....leaving deposits too.  Coyotes have moved into the wooded area nearby making nightly raids  in our yard.  They are way too close to the house and we have started leaving the lights on out back.  Also we have sprayed bleach mixture around the steps and by the workshop.   I believe they caught the nesting birds, Flickers, by the side walk.  The bunnies have disappeared, and so have the chipmunks.
We got lax for a few days and thought they were gone.  This morning Sir Old Man found the remains of a squirrel by the side door, and other remains near the shop.   So back to protecting our space.   They can have the woods, just avoid my house.
It will probably only get worse as more development is moving out our way.  The golf course has closed and big developers are sniffing around.  I may need to move to a mountain top......no, then I would have to face bears too.  LOL.
Happy stitching.

Not knowing what size your string blocks will be, have you ever tried piecing strings on used dryer sheets? I've tried one block, quilted it and then washed the block. The dryer sheet held up just fine and didn't need to be cut away after stitching. They would work well I think for blocks/triangles that fit that size. Your garlic knot borders finish that top very sweetly, and will give the blocks more stability at the edges. Love your inclusion of the darker strips too. I'm happy to hear that your pharmacist may have found an answer to your current fluctuating condition with the B/P drops. Praying for you my friend.

Sorry to hear health problems are interfering with your days. This life seems to be a series of ups and downs. Hope you are on an up swing now! I love your border on the garlic knots. I really want to make some garlic knots. I have plenty of squares cut - maybe one day soon. Coyotes!?! They sound way too close - take care! ~Jeanne

If I didn't have a little dog, I'd welcome the coyote's to get rid of our rabbit infestation this year (we've never had so many before). Hope you are doing better. I know the heat hasn't helped (it sure hasn't helped me).

I'm praying that the pharmacist's suggestion works for you. So sorry about the challenges you are facing.
Your border is a lovely finish on the garlic knots.
I've never heard of Wacky Web. I'll have to read up on it.

So far the coyotes have stayed away from our yard, but my dog recently got skunked. I sure hope you're feeling better soon!

Hope your pharmacist got a good script idea going for you. I know what you mean just looking at something and being unable to do anything about it. I just love the border you put on the quilt. Not sure what is going on, but we have had bear sightings, and one having to be shot just 10 miles from Buffalo. I think with less farming all around, the fields have turned into forests and the animal population has increased. I do not like coyotes, I think they are destructive. A lot of them spotted in the second ring suburbs around here. I live a block from the city line, so it has not been serious for me yet. So good to see and hear from you!

I hope that the pharmacist's suggestion works for you. Medication issues can be a royal pain in the ____.

I really like that scrappy border treatment on Garlic Knots! Maybe the coyotes will move on, now that they've dined on all your local critters :( Crossing my fingers that the pharmacist's help is what you need!

I love that simple border! Hope you get the meds regulated. It is no fun feeling wiped out all the time. The heat and humidity don't help either. I'm pretty sure we don't have any coyotes here in town but towns not far away are dealing with them on the properties at the edge of town. My worse predators are huge raccoons that come visiting after dark. I would hate to meet one on a walk around my house.

bodies are hard to figure out... such a balancing act!

We recently moved from Maryland to Colorado. We looked all over for a house and it took 4 months of lost bids and looking but we are now near a golf course (just happened) and also have coyote. I had no idea til a neighbor said, watch out for the rattlers and coyote.

blink blink
what?! That's just about ALL I need! Good luck chasing them off. I know dried blood frightened bunnies in MD but that might attract them !

I just love your quilts by the way, and get your posts by email, just seldom come over to leave comments

Sorry about the recent health problems. Your quilts are looking good though. The coyotes...oy...the bain of our existence here at the Three Cats Ranch. They come and go, and we have to be super careful with the kitties.

Hope the pharmacist's idea works. You've had a long hard road. Just when you think it's getting better, something else happens. We have coyotes in the area, but none in the neighborhood, judging by the number of rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, moles, etc that we have. To say nothing of the deer which have made gardening impossible. I just keep telling myself I'm getting too old to garden anyway, but I do miss my hosta, daylilies and roses.

My mom always said people do not use their pharmacist enough! Hope you got it fixed. The idea for the border works very well. I’ve enjoyed watching that quilt go together. Having a development move out certainly hasn’t decreased our bunnies or squirrels around here, although I wish it would have. We do get coyotes but they generally don’t come up by right by our house but I always worry about the chickens as they have gotten into them before when I’ve accidentally left the door to the coop open overnight. I spoke to the fish and wildlife preserve guy about the problem back then and he suggested throwing firecrackers out the door to scare them off. Granted, he said, they will get used to everything eventually, but it might be enough to make them move on. He also let us know they will jump in 8 foot fence if they know there is food on the other side. ( our new coop and run is completely enclosed now—top too—so I don’t worry about them getting in so much as long as I never forget to shut that door!). The coyotes are still kind of fun to hear, even if they are pretty creepy sounding.

Pleased that you're back, sorry to hear about the health though. I have found that our pharmacist is more help than the doctor at times! I always ask her advice on medication and especially interactions. Hope that things can settle a little for you.
Perfect simple border, love the little peeks of patterned fabrics in there. I'm looking forward to seeping more of your spider web blocks.
I'm so pleased we have no coyotes here in New Zealand, they sound way to close for comfort at your place.
