Saving plans

There's a Piggy Bank saving challenge starting at Val's Quilting Studio.     The idea is to save, save, save for a year and then have $$$ for quilt spending.  Ok, I can do that .  Just for me.....I usually pass my change on to Sir Old Man  for his coin rolls.  No more....it is going into my jar/savings plan.  I always have extra empty candle jars around, so  a few swipes with a paint marker and it is now designated as a money jar.

Right now, I can't even buy a cup of coffee with my coins.....but I am aiming for enough to buy a whole bolt of backing fabric.  I never have enough backing it seems.
Linking to Val's linky.....happy stitching.

  1. Deb! Awesome!! Welcome aboard. A bolt of backing fabric is such a good idea...like you said we can never have enough and that always seems to be the purchase I hate to make! Thanks for adding the button to your sidebar. KNow I'm your newest GFC follower. Looking forward to following and getting to know your work this year! V:)

  4. A bolt of backing it a great goal. I have done this for years (but my jar isn't as pretty as yours) and it usually ends up being spent on something quilty, but I rarely can wait the whole year. I turn it in whenever I need the money to pay for a class or buy a backing, or some new quilting tool--or if I am going to be visiting a new quilt shop somewhere. Sure comes in handy! : )

  5. I'm thinking about this too, just don't seem to get as much change as I used to! Good luck with this.

  7. Saving change is a good idea. It counts up nicely in a year's time. A whole bolt of backing fabric sounds wonderful. What would you choose for that bolt of backing? I've thought of maybe buying 5 yards or so when I find a good sale, but then I never know what fabric to choose. And I'm afraid to buy multiple yards and risk having it lying around for multiple years. Back in the day, this was never an issue for me because I would buy a quantity of muslin. But these days, muslin seems to be out of favor. There are lots of tuts on buying quilt fabrics. I would be interested in your perspective on buying a bolt of backing fabric. Thanks for clueing me in.

  8. Well, it's probably too late to get a substantial amount saved for the quilt shop hop in October...but I could maybe make a dent with this idea? I used to stick all of our change on my starbucks card, and it was amazing to see how that would add up. Now I end up throwing most in the tip jar at our new haunt. ;o)

  9. Great idea to buy a bolt of backing. I think I might add a bolt of white flannel to my list, I use it instead of batting for summer baby blankets. thanks for the idea. I'm following on GFC,
