It's been a long time coming

No sewing yesterday  after all.....instead we set up the bed!  I can't believe it is finally finished and residing in the house.
Saturday  night Sir Old Man brought all the parts  up to the house......for them to acclimate overnight.  Then the next afternoon was the take down of the old bed.  And some cleaning......where did those dust globbies come from?

The beginning of the set up was like a three ring circus with 2 people using arms and legs to hold it all in place.  A few adjustments and shifting happened, as we tried to make sure it was square.  Yes, square like in 90 degree corners.  I knew how to check that!   Using my extra long tape measure , we measured corner to corner.  A few nudges and it was square.

With the buzz Saw quilt on it......I really  have just  been sitting and looking at it.  Then running my hand over the smooth, satiny surface.

I love the slight arch along the top of the head board and foot board.

My nephew says it is awesome.....with icing on top!

I truly have never owned anything so beautiful.  You can tell I am smiling.  What's even better......my feet touch the floor and I don't need a parachute when I get out of bed!

Sir Old Man out did himself....as always.  He is a perfectionist and this was his labor of love.  From the fuming tent and duct tape, to the battle with the humidity this summer marring the finished---requiring a total re-do----he persevered.   He learned through the process, he says.  And that's exactly how to develop any skill set.....do it!

It's been a long wait for the bed.....but so worth it.  I am calling this saga over.  Thanks for coming along.
Happy stitching.

  2. Every time I read about someone who works with wood, there are always so many parallels to the quilt making process. So this beautiful bed draped with your beautiful quilt are a perfect union! Just like the happy couple that made them both!

  6. Connie, You must be so proud of your husband. To create something so beautiful, a piece of furniture, so magnificently hand crafted, must be so satisfying for him. This bed will welcome you every night and your quilts will keep you both warm. It was well worth the wait, and I'm so happy for you both.

  8. What a beautiful bed! And to have it be his own handiwork is amazing. That quilt looks gorgeous on it, too, the way its cool tones perfectly play with the warm wood finish. I would keep walking into the room to look at it. :D

  20. This is just so fantastic in so many ways! The handmade quilt on the handmade bed...you both are so talented and clearly understand what laboring (the fun, enjoyable & rewarding kind!) with love is all about! Sure, machines can make things much more quickly and inexpensively but those are a dime a dozen, nothing unique and just no LOVE in them. The bed and the quilts that go on it are absolutely priceless treasures.
