An oldie

Annette asked about the pattern  for the quilt on the bed from my last post.  Luckily I knew I had it ... in the folder I keep of patterns used for quilts that I have made.  Actually, it was where it should have been, only I had to hunt for the folder as it was moved in the re-organizing.

From McCall's Quilting in June 2005, the pattern is called Star Light.  The basic block is a large pinwheels and the sashing creates the stars.  I pieced this the summer of 2006 on my Featherweight as my domestic machine had died and not been replaced yet.

I made it larger ----and in 2 sections for easier quilting----as I wanted it wide enough to hang long and cover the sides of the bed.  I think it ended up about 90'' by 110''.    The original was in red and cream.    If you are a follower in dire need of the pattern, email me with a request.  I have a PDF.
Happy stitching.

  1. This is just so soothing - great pattern. And oh to change up those darks to maybe a medium brown to further flow that neutral. NO Sharon - you have enough on your plate. (my mom has the magazine-I checked)

  4. It's really beautiful, I see how the stars are made, but what about those squares?

  5. I was thinking the same as Dana G - I understand the stars, but the squares confused me

    PS It looks great.

  6. It looks like the squares are formed by flip triangles added to the HST.

  14. Dear Debbie, You have a new follower (I hope When I put in my email address, I got a big ERROR sign!) Anyway, you are amazing. Your work is unbelievable. God has definitely given you very special talents that I, as a quilter admire so much. I first saw your work on FaveQuilts.com I saw Strip Pieced Water Color Quilt Part III and naturally had to see the first two parts! You create my favorite type of quilt - colorwash or watercolor. I love them but, I really struggle with color values. (I find solids hard enough but, when you try to piece prints I get flusterated.) Do you know of any books that go into that in detail? That's why I say you have a true gift!! I love the quilt featured today... It's a far cry from "watercolor" but, it's still so unique and lovely! You used the neutrals in such a striking way! I would love that pattern if you would consider sending it to me. I have subscribed to your blog but, just in case you don't get it, here is my email: lew45sholes@gmail.com. I also LOVE your "words of wisdom". (I noticed that when looking at one of your other posts.) I hope you reply... I love your innate creativity. Like I always say, "Quilting ain't for sissies!!"
