Simple quilting

Just a quiet week here.  So I am getting a start on some simple FMQ.  I had the leader and ender project already pinned.   I debated back and forth on how I wanted to quilt this one.
The center is all done in floral fabrics...meaning not much will show once quilted.  That really influenced me to just use a smaller stipple, and ignoring the darker triangles that create the star.  Of course, you can't see much from this photo, and when finished it won't really show either I suspect.

Even a peek on the back doesn't show much.  I really, really liked this fabric I picked up from Quilted Twins.  They called it tan, but it is more a pale sage color with a faded floral/swirl motif.
It was one of the extra wide backings that I ordered a couple of months ago.

And now I have a duo of watercolor tops for wall hangings.  Some days just playing with the squares calms me, and takes me away to a better place in my mind.

The peeling hands are still there, but seem to be calming down.  Soon I hope.
And the pollen season is beginning to wind down...thank goodness.
Happy stitching.

  1. Sometimes simple meander quilting is very therapeutic and just right for the project at hand. I love that backing fabric too. Do you find the wide backings are a heavier and less thread count than regular quilting fabric? I'd love to find backings that have the same thread count as the tops. Good to hear your hands are beginning to heal, and hope the spring allergies will soon be a thing of the past for you.

  2. And often a simple meander is all that is needed to give texture to a piece that already has enough visual interest from the fabrics used.
That is a pretty fabric you found for the backing.
I'm glad you are seeing some relief in a couple of areas--and that you can find some peace of mind through quilting therapy.

  3. The stipple creates a nice soft texture and seems to work well with this quilt. I do like that backing fabric.

  5. Simple quilting is good for a piece you want the design or fabric to be the highlight. Healing prayers being sent your way.

  6. Sometimes a simple stipple is just the right choice. And I find it very soothing to stitch, kind of mindless and meditative.

I read your very last line as, "Happy itching" because it's definitely still blowing pollen around here! :)

  7. Pollen really hasn't arrived here yet. Nice day, then a cold day. Your quilt is gorgeous- makes me smile just looking at it. Playing with fabric always calms me down. Nice quilting.

  8. That is a beautiful backing. Glad the pollen is calming down. (At least you can enjoy all those flowers in your quilts--they don't come with pollen!)
