The design began as slightly abstract with dark on the side and a band of dark across. The more I looked at it, I could see a fence post with broken post. That lead me to adding some applique using these bold flowers in gold and turquoise.
Note the applique is fused fabric , cut out and tucked close to each other to create illusion of a vine climbing the post. All edges are machine stitched with a small zig-zag stitch.
So morning glories climbing a broken post seems a natural. I ended up with a light binding...which is not what I wanted, but now it is done.
Hung on the office door it offers up a bright spot of Spring in our troubled world.
Happy stitching.
Summer dreaming, flowers climbing fence posts, butterflies hovering overhead, sounds idyllic to me! A beautiful finish. Far too cold and windy to sit outside today, but we can all dream!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty piece you've made--i love the turquoise flowers a lot...
ReplyDeleteWe are wishing our weather would warm up here so we could get out on our deck...~ ~ ~ from Julierose ;)))
The turquoise morning glories are perfect! This is a gorgeous finish. Hope you enjoyed some time on the porch. I was able to take a walk this afternoon. It does help to get out in the fresh air. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteWolf Kahn usually painted nature elements in altered color combinations so you can have turquoise morning glories.
ReplyDeleteA little bit of happy is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThe florals make me smile. Can't wait for something other than crocuses here. Super finish.
ReplyDeleteThere are turquoise morning glories now! You have created them. I love the artistic license you took with the color. I also happen to like how the inner border echos that color although in a darker tone.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like to do with wall hangings is to face them rather than bind them. The bonus for me is that I dont' have to pick a binding fabric.
Beautiful watercolor wall hanging, perfect to brighten up for spring.
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the morning glories. I like how the dark border ties in to the dark side of the wall hanging. Get sunshine every chance you get...vitamin D helps.
ReplyDeleteYou have created a pretty bit of spring to brighten the hours of in-house isolation. It is good that you can get out to a porch and enjoy some sun--and then come back in and enjoy your Morning Glories. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful, serene piece, Debbie! So lovely. We have limited opportunities to even get out and walk, but sitting outside in the sun and fresh air does seem to help :)
ReplyDeleteWish I could go out and sit in the sun for a spell. Last Sunday we were near 70 and sunny, although very windy. I spent 3 hours working in the garden. But since then, cold, cloudy, sometimes rainy and there's snow flurries in the forecast for next week. At least the daffodils are blooming and the forsythia is about to pop. Love your latest colorwash creation.

Since it's abstract, a turquoise Morning Glory works well. Nice finish. Yes, we need some Spring (renewal) in our world right now.
