The eagle landed at home today

I arrived home about 1 pm today after 8 weeks in the hospital/rehab.  I could not dance like i intended but tears of joy filled my space.  Nothing is as sweet as home....even wheel chair bound right now.   Not sure how long this stage will last, and I will be doing out patient PT for a while.   I move on muscle memory since I still have no feeling or sensory feedback from my hands or feet.  The doctors are hopeful that nerves will be restored some day.
I am having "twinges" through out my body...imagine burst of electricity ......doctors think that is the nerve paths waking up.  So my main diet food is vitamin B-12 and vitamin D...with lots of fluids.  All for healthy red cells and hemoglobin.
Sir Old Man is exhausted and we have lots of things to solve for our daily living.  I really hope to get to catch up on what I missed as I wait for more improvements.  Thanks for all the cards and thoughts and prayers.  At that darkest time, the only thing that matters to your heart are the people who make your life a joy.  Thanks again, and keep stitching.

  2. I'm so glad you are home! Being in a place you love will help you recover faster. I have a friend who broke his back and has no feeling from the waist down and I wondered how he could still walk. Now after listening to you, I'm guess he is using muscle memory too.

  7. I am so happy to hear that you are well enough to be home. I know there is still lots of healing to do, but you ARE healing. I take b12 daily due to a condition I have that seems to deplete my levels.
I would look at those "burst of electricity" as a very positive thing and endure them happily.
    Peace and hugs - Gene

  9. Welcome home! I know you and Sir Old Man will find some kind of routine and the recovery will continue.
On bad days/moments, you might look back and see how far you've come - recovery really is a journey. Sending hugs and prayers. ~Jeanne

  11. Good morning Debbie, and welcome home. Like Judy Garland said, "There's no place like home", and never more true than when you've been gone for so long. Just the fact that there will be nobody waking you up for periodic BP and temperature checks is a Godsend, and going to sleep in that beautiful bed Sir Old Man built for the two of you has got to make you feel so blessed. Prayers and Hugs for the both of you.

  15. Yea, PTL. So glad your home, That step will help you both. Think "Dorothy".8-) I was thinking the Hangman might help with hands. I was thinking therapy for the hands and keeping the mind busy, a twofer.
Will be praying for you and DH.
    Hugs

  17. Now that's progress. Welcome home. Get outside when the heat and humidity allows. Breathe the fresh air. Sit in the sun for a few minutes. Live in the moment. We are all here for you.

  20. So happy to hear this, and know how relieved you must be. When I think about it, it is not just the endarterectomy, or the nerve problem in the neck, or the B12 issues... that is a triple whammy! You are moving through recovery and I know that for me, sometimes it felt like every step forward then was followed by two steps back... but the biggest picture is that you are getting better and healing. You are in the prayers of so many, and surrounded by love. Sir Old Man is in the prayers too, I know how exhausted my husband was when I was going through this. .. . Pretty soon this will be a memory and not the current reality!

  21. My mom's PT guy had her sit next to a wall or door and put her hand on it. Then she would crawl her fingers up and down the wall/door. It is good exercise and helps with muscle memory. Glad you're back at home. Blessings!

  22. Welcome home! It's so good to know you are now posting from home where the healing can really begin. There's no place like home to make a person feel better. I'll continue my prayers for you and your DH. Hang in there...look how much progress you've made so far.

  24. So very happy to read that at last you are home. Time will be the healer, it may take more time than you would like but I'm praying that all will come right for you soon. As you say there will have to be some changes in the home but they are necessary, just go with the flow on those.

  28. Hallelujah! So happy for you, and wishing you an even more speedy recovery. I think those electrical signals your body is sending out are a very good sign that everything is slowly waking up again. You're on your way now and we'll keep praying for more progress each day.
