FMQ on Bead blocks

Slowly regaining my strength,  it  took me about 5 sessions this past week to get the Chandelier Bead top quilted.

I wanted the colors of the "beads"  to be the focus so I decided not to do an overall quilting pattern.  Lots of texture came up with swirls in all the "negative" space around the beads in the block.

In case you don't remember this block from a few months ago, this is the post and snapshot of the block I worked up in EQ7.

The border is in a teal blue tonal pattern.....I switched to medium gray thread so I could see what I was stitching.  I debated on feathers but in the end went with the butterfly wings motif.  It is 3 plumes in a clump and out line stitched to create a group that resembles  a butterfly wing.  Here's a better post and detail on this motif.     It's one I snagged from LuAnn Kessi's blog  and use it often.

Time to get this one trimmed up and the binding on.  I will get better photos when it is done.  I love the backing fabric....a crackled blue pattern that reminds me of ice.  It shows off the texture  from the quilting well.

We had a nice weekend weather wise and awoke to cold this morning.  There were threats from the weatherman about snow flurries this morning, but I believe they lied to us.  LOL....what else is new.   This has been the craziest winter to spring season we have had in a long time.

More quilting to come as I have the Jewel Box Stars in floral prints ready to go.  That will be my April challenge to myself.  Happy stitching.

  1. I love your quilting on this one, and thanks for sharing the info about Plumify, I'd forgotten all about that one and need to add it into my FMQ notebook. You will have two quilts in one with that glorious ice blue backing, it simply glows and shows off your stitches beautifully.

  2. This is a beautiful quilt and I love the quilting. I've done variations of the butterfly motif but never this exact one - I'll have to try it one of these days. I hope April is a good month for you. ~Jeanne

  4. It looks great. I am glad you were feeling up to doing the quilting.

I think I need to learn that motif for quilting on my quilts.

  5. I, too, love everything about this quilt! That's one I want to make soon. I also want to break out of my pantograph comfort zone soon and start doing some free motion, tho I'm not very artistic when it comes to that. (I figured i'd spend a couple years getting used to the LA and then work into it.) . Sorry the cold hit--apparently we had some flurries but I never saw them. Can it just be warm for GOOD now??

  6. Wonderful texture to your quilting. I'll need to go look at the "butterfly wings" post you linked to. I'm making Chandelier Bead blocks for RSC, so it will be a while before they are done. Our weather in western NY has been all over the place too, but mostly cold.

  7. Your quilt is so pretty & I love that backing fabric that you used. I think the butterfly wings quilting motif is perfect for that quilt. We got a bit of a cold snap a couple of days ago but looks like it's going to be back in the high 60's/low 70's again for a few days. Spring is so up & down here...never know what the next day will bring. :) So glad you are feeling better.
