Florals and scraps

I started making Boxed Squares  from Mary Quilts last month....got side-tracked to finish up the bed runners, and finally got back to them.  Now they are filling up the design wall.    I haven't decided how big I want to go.

The blocks I am making are small...5'' unfinshed.  My strips are 2'' rather than 2 1/2''---because that is what I have a lot of!   So right now this would sew up to about 31'' by 36''.
Yes, more, I need to cut more parts.    I am using floral strips for this one, and just playing light again dark, usually.  There are a few thrown in that can go either way.  Be warned....making these are fun and addictive.  Like  potato chips....just one more!

So since I was cutting for the Boxed Squares, I looked at my "intend to make list".   I had pulled out a page from an old Quiltmaker magazine.  One of Bonnie Hunter's Scrap columns.....Garlic Knots.    The block is also known as Arrowhead.

I am cutting scraps as I go and stacking them on a deli tray for sorting/pairing.  I put together 2  blocks for samples to make sure I was  cutting enough pieces.    The  neutral backgrounds are going to be mixed probably in the blocks and that is fine with me.
I am changing up my piecing a bit from Bonnie.  I am assembling the block as 4 patch units.  It works better for me for some reason.
Keep stitching:)

The boxed squares are very addicting, but work so well with anything. Your florals are so pretty. The garlic knot is another fun block to play with and you have a good start.

I've made a couple of quilt's using Mary's boxed squares pattern. It's a fun go-to pattern.

Love the boxed squares, so versatile and so pretty using your florals. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to set your garlic knot blocks too.

Nice boxed squares using florals and garlic knots looks interesting - is this set on the diagonal?

I really like the box quilt!
Your construction method on the Garlic Knots makes sense. I think I would be less likely to mess it up doing it your way. :)

I really like your Boxed Squares. I also have a couple of Bonnie Hunter quilts on my intend to make list - don't think I'll ever run out of patterns I'd love to make. ~Jeanne

Both blocks look like fun. I’m committed to using more of my scraps when I get home. I’ve added so much fabric to my stash on this trip, I’m going to need the space. Your post is inspiring me.

I am always looking at blocks seeing if I can make it with strip sets that can be subdivided. It seems to me that I could do that with both of these blocks.
I love the Boxed Squares - I may add a few of those into a quilt that I have partially made. Ha ha..you know I never stick precisely to a pattern.

I think "fun and addictive" (along with florals) is perfect for the winter blahs! And calorie-free! ;o)

Yes, make them as 4 patch units is much easier. Nice florals.
