Lost track of the day/week

Before I get emails checking on me, I thought I needed to stick my head up and do a post!  Days have run together as there is nothing to set forth a routine any more.  Regular household chores of cooking and laundry, time reading, and sitting outside in the sun, doing jig-saw puzzle fill in the hours between small bouts of sewing and making masks to fill requests.  I am now out of what little elastic I found hidden in the closet.

Sewing.....I did some big quilt wrangling and wrestling to get the wonky courthouse steps quilted!  What a chore this one was.  Or it could be the wrist and hand pain just made it seem that way.  Anyway, it is done and ready for a wash.
My blocks are 8''  and the quilt finished up at about 64'' by 80''.
I began the blocks in the fall of last year, and just used whatever was in the string and scrap bins.  Collectively, everything comes together so well.....as long as you are 3 feet away!  Lol.

The tutorial is from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville....she called them crooked courthouse steps.

I am now sewing rows together on the "keeping my sanity during the pandemic" sting quilt.  This is a much smaller project!  The blocks I am working with here are 4 ''.  I intended these to create a wall hanging, so we will see what happens as I progress.

We have had big storms, lots of rain, cool days, and now warmer spring days of sunshine.  I have had a teleconference doctor visit, a physical visit for the eye doctor, cancelled appointments, and not a single trip to the store.  How life changed in a few days and now lasting over 7 weeks of stay at home, I think.

The one thing I truly miss.....the one thing I really need.....a hair cut!  I am so hoping that the salon will open up soon.  I can order a lot online, but haircuts are not offered that way.  I have threatened to just shave my head and be done with it all, but Sir Old Man told the hairdresser and she gave me a lecture and a half.
And as soon as this quilt is washed and dried, A short nap will be needed.
Happy stitching.  Stay safe and well.

Your quilt is beautiful, wonky blocks or not! I need a haircut too! I needed one when all this lockup began. It won't be long until I can wear a pageboy hair style! Today I'm cleaning house a bit, getting ready for the "house cleaner" to come tomorrow for my first experience with that idea. That's a little scary for me. Just take it easy; do what you can and/or want to. That's my plan! ---"Love"

Nice to hear from you! Scrappy quilts always speak to me - I love them and this one is a winner. I haven't started a pandemic quilt; I'm just trying to finish all of the quilt tops I have around here. I am making progress in-between masks. Life sure is crazy isn't it? A friend told me the other day that in some ways we are reliving the 60's - cheap gas and shaggy hair. ~Jeanne

I really like how this turned out!! I've daydreamed of three different pandemic quilts I'd like to do (one with selvages, one with strings, one with umm I can't remember ), but I haven't done it. The past two weeks I've been slammed with making a gazillion masks for our county's first responders (they could buy medical grade filters, but not the masks). Today I could finally do whatever sewing I want, and I felt drawn to work on a current project instead of pulling something new out. Maybe after I've decompressed more from the masks, I'll feel like making the explosion mess of starting on a selvages project!! You've inspired me. The hair thing - oh, man, I'm with you. I finally caved yesterday and did some snipping at my bangs. It's definitely not an Aarrion job (my hairdresser), but it's not horrid, either, so I'm happy for now. Hopefully happy enough for the next 10 days before my appointment on his first open day! The gray, though.... he'll have his hands full getting rid of 17 weeks of growth!! Won't we feel so much younger again after a visit to the salon? :)

Debbie, I so fully understand the loss of day recognition. Once in a while I go "oh it is ___day, If things were normal, I would ____ today." But some days I am like "what day is this anyway????" Not that it matters right now.

I confess that I cut my own hair a week or so ago, then yesterday I got crazy and colored it -oops - waaay too dark. Luckily I can cut it all off when this is over and have my usual salt 'n' pepper back. I don't mind it being really short. I just wish I could have the barber shave my neck! LOL.

As for productivity, I am up and down -working like mad at times and other times just chilling out more than I ever have before. It feels a bit weird but it is just how I am coping so I don't beat myself up about it.
Hang in there!

I think not being aware of the day of the week anymore is the common malady these days. Let's not even go into the subject of hair, lol. If mine gets any longer I'll be a hippie throwback! That is a large quilt you've just finished, its no wonder your poor wrists are complaining. But it's a wonderful finish. I'm eyeing the scrap boxes with the thought of some scrappy blocks or possibly string blocks, but want to finish my 3 year old grandson's quilt first. Took stock of unfinished projects a week or so ago with the thought if I were to succumb to the virus which quilt would I most regret not having finished, and his big-boy bed quilt was the one. So, machine threaded and tomorrow bright and early it goes under the needle. Take care and be safe, and baby that wrist for awhile!

Beautiful quilt! And about the hair.. I normally have short hair and get haircuts every 4-5 weeks max. Last week... #8 buzz cut... not waiting on the salons... 😛

You did a great job on the wonky courthouse quilt. My days are blurring into one another too.

Love the court house quilt - and you had a finish for the month which is truly a step forward. I rely on my computer that has the day, date, and time in the lower corner - or I would be lost. I miss our quilting class gals so to help with days, I send that day's usually group an e-mail to check on how they are doing or need anything. We have found the 'porch drop off' a very good way to get items to those who need.

Great quilt, so interesting in color and texture. Sorry you had to wrangle it so much. Fortunately, cardiac rehab is still in business, so three days a week, I have some structure. Have some weekly zoom meetings that I run, so that helps. I miss people. I need a haircut also. Would love to go shop for fabric. Good to hear from you and see what you have been up to.

Your little string blocks are going to make a very pretty quilt.

I have gotten past the awkward stage with my hair and am pretty content with letting it grow out. I have a little natural curl so it is interesting seeing how it looks each day.

So pleased to see this post come up Debbie! I think a lot of us are losing track of the days, each one is the same, our routines have almost disappeared. We have been at home five weeks now, a short walk around the block is the furthest I have been. We are coming out of Level 4 in one week, all being well, and will go down to Level 3 which is truly not much different, in fact just the same if you're over 70yrs and have underlying health problems - so I won't be going anywhere exciting.
Quilting - congratulations on a quilting finish on your Wonky Courthouse Steps, lovely and bright, just what we need right now.
Stay safe!!

The lack of routine has everyone distracted and not sure what day it is. And the unseasonably cold weather means I don't even remember what month it is. Your wonky courthouse steps quilt looks good. I'm impressed that you felt able to tackle one that size to quilt, but feel sure you paced yourself. Since I have shoulder length hair, the only thing I've had to trim is my bangs. Crooked, but they'll do and who's going to see me anyway? Here's hoping the weather calms down and warms up for all of us.

Ha...I was just thinking of you yesterday. I’m doing another mosaic quilt, and I was trying to discern gradations of reds...so hard. Glad you’re doing okay. I so hear you about the hair. Mine hasn’t seen a hairdresser since November, so you can just imagine how shaggy it is. We were traveling, but our salons shut down before we were able to get in after getting home. I’m *really* hoping they reopen soon, or this experiment with long hair parted down the middle (like when I was in high school) will continue to its frightful end.

Well, you know me....I love everything that you do! The wonky courthouse steps quilt is beautiful. Can't wait to see your new wall hanging.
About a week before all this crisis hit us I needed a haircut & a perm really, really bad. Well, I didn't get it so you can imagine what I look like now. The hair goes up into a pony tail every day & as the top gets longer it goes into that pony tail as well. Length wise it's about to the bottom of my shoulder blades & that's way to long for me.
I've been spending a lot of time outside during these long days.
Take care & stay safe!

Great job on your scrappy courthouse steps quilt. Life is different but glad you are staying busy with indoor activities.

Love the court house steps quilt. My favorite as you can use every fabric.

I desperately need a hair cut too.

Have been wondering how things are going. The quilts are beautiful--always like courthouse steps. For me, the next best thing to shaving off my hair (which I've also threatened a few times--lol) is pulling it back so I'm keeping it long for as long as I can.
